Will Abstract
- Will of William Knox of the town of Cadiz, County of Harrison and State of Ohio.
- Names 'beloved wife Hetty", "my three oldest sons James, John & William", "Whereas Philip Trine who intermarried with my daughter Jane is indebted to my in the sum of two hundred dollars - exclusion of interest thereon and for which I hold his note or writing obligatory, now therefore I will and direct that the said Note be cancelled and given up to him, and that he be released from the payment of said Note & interest".
- Nominate and appoint my said Wife Hetty Knox the sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament.
- "It is my Will, and I hereby direct that after the decease of my said wife all the said money that may remain due and owing to my estate as aforesaid be equally divided among my following children & Grand child or their heirs to wit: David, Nancy, Jeremiah, Matthew McCallum?, Sarah & Arthur & my grand son James Allen son of my daughter Mary share and share alike."

- Lots 194 to 198 were platted by William Knox May 25, 1836, and extend from Muskingum street down the northeast side of Market, to the beginning of Lincoln avenue. Lot 199 was platted by Andrew P. Rev. William (2) Knox, son of William (1) Knox, was born at Stony Falls, Straburn, county Tyrone, Ireland, January 23, 1767, and died in Cadiz, Ohio, June 16, 1851, while on the "circuit." ] He began ministerial work as a local preacher in his native country, but desiring a wider field. came to the United States in 1797, accompanied by his wife, Margaret (MacCollum) Knox, and her family. While preaching in Connellsville. he married his second wife, Nancy Smith, a native of that town; he married (third) Esther Tingley. Children by first wife : James, born in Ireland ; William, John. Children by second wife: David Smith, of further mention; Nancy, who married White; Jane. Children by third wife: Jeremiah, Matthew, Arthur, Mary, Sarah, Esther. From History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania:
Rev. William Knox, a native of County Tyrone, Ireland, emigrated to America in 1797; was received into the Baltimore conference in 1800, and, settling in Ohio, was successively a member of the Baltimore, Ohio and Pittsburgh conferences. He died June 16, 1851.
