Excerpt from History of Hannah Maria Johnson by Bill Herlihy, 10 Aug 01, p. 2:

Her paternal grandfather, William Johnson, 1812 (?)- 1883, passed away at age 71. On the birth certificate of his son, Bill, 1851, and on the same son's marriage certificate in 1876, he was listed as a spinner. But he was listed on his wife's death certificate in 1877 as a "beer seller," and on his own death certificate in 1883 as a "publican." He was a pub owner in London (?) and later in Manchester? Both he and his wife died at 7 Spittel Street in Manchester. Was there a bar at this address? His place of birth is not known."
