ROCHESTER, MN — Dr. William Isley, formerly of Overland Park, Kan., died Thursday, September 27, 2007, in Rochester, Minn.

A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, September 30, in Rochester, Minn., at the Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, at Mill Creek Community Church, 7825 Gleason Road, Shawnee, KS, 66227.

He was born March 2, 1951, in Greensboro, N.C., to William Robert Isley and Annie Rebecca Isley.

He received a BA in Physics and MD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He did post-graduate training in internal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.

He served in the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas, with the rank of Major.

He served on the faculty of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine for 19 years, with staff service at Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill and Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City. Since 2003, he served as a consultant in endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism and nutrition at Mayo Clinic Rochester, and as associate professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

His passions in life: His family, studying and teaching the Bible and theology, and practicing and teaching clinical medicine.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Robert Isley.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Janet Bell Isley; his mother, Annie Rebecca Isley of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Dr. Robert Arnold Isley of Snellville, Ga., and James Allen Isley of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Lydia Bender of Lenexa and Susanna Matney of Overland Park; one son, Nicolas Robert Isley of Kansas City; and three grandchildren, Marley and Isis Matney, and Parker Bender.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. before the funeral service at the church.
