[edit] Information on William InnesFrom Genforum.com post:
Hugh Innes, burgess, was born in Scotland and was not a descendant of the earlier Hugh Innes (b. about 1635 in Scotland) who immigrated to Virginia. This was sent to me by an Innes researcher. Berowald, first Lord of Innes (charter granted Christmas Day, 1100 A.D.) His descendant: Sir Robert Innes m. Grizzelle Stewart, dau of James Stewart, 2nd earl of Moray and wife Countess Elizabeth Stewart... descendant: ... (What are the generations in between?) 1. James Innes (whose line is traced to those above, supposedly), had a natural son: 2. (Rev.) Berowald Innes married 15 Aug 1678 in Alves, Morayshire, Scotland, Lady Jean Falconer (Faulkner), the daughter of Colin Falconer, the Bishop of Moray, and his wife Lillias Rose. Colin Falconer is listed in the Scot's Peerage and from there the line is traced back through his (great-?)grandmother Elizabeth Douglas to Robert, the Bruce, the Stewart kings of Scotland, the Douglas family, most of the early peerage of Scotland, and if a critical link is accurate (there is some question about the maternity of Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of George Gordon, 2nd E. of Huntly--some sources list the mother as Annabella Stewart, daughter of James I of Scotland and his wife Joan Beaufort, but others question it) Edward III, K. of England. 3. William Innes born about 1690 married Margaret McKay/Mackey/Mackie.

issue:
4b. Hugh Innes was a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses, 1769-74, representing Henry County. Was Captain of the militia of Franklin Co., 1763 was a judge in Franklin County was Sheriff of Franklin Co., 1787-89 He died 3-22-1797 in Franklin Co., VA Hugh Innes of Fairfax Co., Bedford Co., Franklin Co., & Henry Co., VA. left a will dated April 1797 Henry Co., VA, giving Sarah Turley land, a horse, other items, and provisions for as long as she lived in his house and for a year thereafter. She was the widow of Peter Turley and mother of Peter Turley Jr. b. c1753 who moved to Kershaw Co., S.C. What other proof is there that Sarah Innes Turley was a sister? Is she listed in the baptism records in Scotland with Hugh and the other siblings? "The ancestry of Hugh Innes of Virginia was established through the joint effort of Edna Perry Deckler, founder of the Texas State Genealogical Society, and Thomas Innes, Lord Lyon of Learney, the head of the College of Arms, and published in "Stirpes," the Texas Genealogical Society Magazine." (quote by a nephew of Edna Deckler, who descended from Hugh Innes) Source: http://genforum.genealogy.com/innes/messages/355.html |
