  • Pages 359-61. 24 May 1738. William Henderson of Orange County to Benja. Cave of same. Mortage. Henderson stands indebted to Cave £3.10.- current money for part of two judgements which he paid for Henderson when he ws Sheriff in Orange County Court and the other by Robt. Bohannan in the same County Court. Also Benja. Cave stood bound with others in the sum of £500 sterling for Henderson for the performance of the Sheriff's office to Joseph Brock, Gent., late Sheriff of Spotsylvania county. To secure debt and the damage that may acrue on that suit brught by Jos. Brock, Gent., late Sherr. of Spotsylvania County, against Benja. Cave and others, makes over three Negro slaves, woman Phillis, garl [sic] Sarah and boy Sam. (Signed) William Henderson. Wit: William (W) Morton, Edwd. Bush. 25 May 1738.   • John Chapman vs. William Henderson. - John Chapman complains of William Henderson that he render him 3,200 pounds of tobacco payable to the defendant by the plaintiff, one white mare of value of £10 current money, one black leather trooping saddle of value £3 current money, which he unjustly detains. Plaintiff in Feb. 1734 delivered to the defendant an obligation for 3,200 pounds of tobacco and a bill of sale for the mare and saddle, property of the plaintiff that was in the possession of Thomas Birk of St. Mark's Parish, which the defendant took into his possession and promised to redeliver when the plaintiff kept the defendant harmless and indemnified from a bond for 2000 pounds of tobacco payable to Francis Nunn of the province of Carolina. The plaintiff discharged the bond but the defendant will not return the obligation, mare and saddle... Summons to William Henderson, 17 July [1735], executed by Benja. Cave, Sheriff. ..   • Henry Willis, Esq. vs. William Henderson. - Plea of tresspass; damage; £13 current money. Summons to William Henderson, returned came too late to the hands of Gideon Marr, Deputy Sheriff. dismissed. [Orange County, Virginia Judgements, 1736, Dorman, pg. 77].
  • Anthony Goodson vs. Benjamin Cave Gent., Sheriff of Orange County. - On 16 May 1735 the plaintiff recovered against William Henderson £3.13.11½ and 90 pounds of tobacco damages sustained by tresspass upon the case. Cave arrested Henderson in execution and then permitted him to go at large. Summons to Benjamin Cave Gent., 16 June [1736], executed 7 July 1736 by Thos. Chew, Coroner. Judgement.
