William Cunningham Hazlett, son of George Whitaker and Fannie Mae (Cunningham) Hazlett, was born November 21, 1917 in rural Monona, Iowa. He died Monday, March 20, 1995 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He was 77 years old.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith.

William was united in marriage to Rosanna Walters on March 17, 1945 at McGregor, Iowa. To this union five children were born.

They farmed in the Monona area until moving to Monona nine years ago. William was very active in church activities and functions.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Irwin Hazlett; two sisters, Wilma Schlitter and Merlie Henkes; and one grandson, Robert James Hazlett.

Survivors include his wife, Rosanna; one son, William C. Hazlett, Jr. and wife Catherine Anne of Monsey, New York; four daughters, Mary Jane and husband, Larry D. Elgin of Cedar Rapids, Margie Collier Hazlett of Monona, Martha Mae Hazlett of Madison, Wisc., and Michele Elizabeth and husband, Donald L. VanWey of Monona; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Hazlett, William C. Hazlett III, Amanda Rosanne Elgin and Daniel P. VanWey, two great grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth and Jessica Catherine Hazlett; three sisters, Frances Fuelling of Elmhurst, Ill., Jane Coffman of Bettendorf, and his twin sister, Dorothea Wirkler of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephew, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 23, 1995 at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. Dr. Gary Dobbins officiated. Organist was Ric Benzing, with special music provided by Keith and Dixie Kutzbach. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Klotzbach, Francis Fox, Bill Baskerville, Donald Schofield, Richard Friederich and Norbert Fritz. Active pallbearers were Burton Walters, Jr., Rick Walters, Eugene Voss, Lawrence Lotza, Dean Hazlett and Richard Huinker. Schultz's Funeral home of Monona was in charge of services. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
