Facts and Events
William Green's origins are unknown. His first confirmed sighting is on 1st November 1694, when he married a Sarah Crismas at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire. The Wheathampstead parish records only survive from 1690, so there is a good chance that William was from Wheathampstead, but any record of his baptism has been lost. William and Sarah had a son, William, baptised at Wheathampstead on 27th December 1696, but he died as a baby of about six months. He was followed in 1698 by a son called John who died within a couple of days of his baptism. In 1699 they had a daughter, Elizabeth, baptised at Wheathampstead on 2nd July 1699. She was followed by a Thomas in 1701 and another John in 1706. William's daughter Elizabeth was married in 1722 to a tailor named John Swallow. William's first known grandchild was born in 1723. William's wife Sarah died in 1727 and was buried at Wheathampstead. William appears to have been still alive at the time of her death, as her burial calls her "Sarah wife of William Green". It has yet to be established what happened to William after 1727. |
