William Garrett came to America with his brothers, Thomas and John in 1682. The Garretts are of Saxon origin; in the 6th century went to England and subdued the Danes. Sir William Garrett was the Lord Mayor of London in 1551 and one William Garrett was the first Chairman of the Virginia Colony (Source:Dictionary of Alabama Biography).
William Garrett was one of the Quakers that came and established a meeting before the arrival of William Penn (Source:PA Magazine V52 p334).

After marriage to Ann Kirk, they resided at Harby, Leicestershire, England 1672-1684. Immigrated to Pennsylvania where he and Samuel Levis of Harby purchased 1000 Acres on 10 Aug 1684. Obtained Cert. of Membership from Friends Soc. 20 May 1684 and settled in Upper Darby same year.
