  1.   William Constable, in Lundy, Darryl. The Peerage: A genealogical survey of the peerage of Britain as well as the royal families of Europe.

This appears to conflate 2 different William's - the brother-in-law of Alexander of Scotland and the son of Sibyl Corbet. This identification of 2 different men as the same person apparently exists in the Complete Peerage (see Cawley).

  2. 2.0 2.1 William (-after 1187), possible son of Herbert FitzHerbert, in Cawley, Charles. Medieval Lands: A prosopography of medieval European noble and royal families.

William was the son of Sibyl Corbet, but it is not known if his father was Herbert FitzHerbert or Henry I of England. Cawley lists him under both, but prefers the former. He also mentions an original document that mentions "Willelmi filii Herberti", suggesting that he was the son of Herbert. The fact that he lived to 1187 also suggests that he might not have been born close to the year that Sybil's illegitimate son by Henry was born.

  3. based on the assumption that he was younger than his brother Herbert (as suggested by Cawley), and on estimated birth year of his mother
