THE RAILWAY ACCIDENT. DEATH OF WILLIAM FITCH, The death occurred at the Newcastle Hospital on Saturday, of Mr. William Fitch, who was run over by a train at the Newcastle Railway Station on Tuesday night. The deceased, it will be remembered, was seen to fall between a car and the No, 3 platform, from which a train was then steaming out for Maitland. The wheels of the carriages passed over Fitch, who, in addition to severe internal injuries, had one of his legs severed be-low the knee. The deceased was a brother-in-law of Mr. George Adams, attached to the Navigation Department, and Mr. Joshua Warren, first assistant lightkeeper at Nobbys. Mr. Fitch was an ironmoulder by trade, and had only been a few days in the employ of Messrs. Morrison and Bearby when he met with the accident which resulted in his death. The circumstances surrounding the fatality will be inquired into at an inquest to be held at the court house at ten o'clock this morning.

A RAILWAY FATALITY.

The Coroner, Mr. C. Hibble, held an inquest to-day respecting the death of a man named William Fitch, aged 42, ironmoulder, who died in the hospital yesterday from injuries received through being crushed beneath a train at the Newcastle railway station on the 20th ultimo. It appeared that the deceased was bidding a friend good-bye in the carriage of a train which was on the point of starting for Maitland, and attempted to alight on the platform whilst it was in motion. In doing so he fell between the carriage and the platform. A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
