"On 16 April 1634, William Fifield took the Oath of Allegiance before embarking for America on the ship Hercules of London. This is the first mention we find of him in the records. All efforts to trace his birthplace have so far met with failure. On arriving in New England, he lived a time at Ipswich, then Newbury, finally settling in 1639 at Hampton, N. H., where he became a freeman 2 Jun3 1641. We have been unable to determine William's birth date. A variety of depositions give him "round number" ages from "about 40" to "about 85," and figured back from these his birth lies somewhere in the years 1614 to 1618." [per TAG 15:218]
