(business) Milton Academy, Milton, Mass......After leaving Harvard I devoted one year to study and travel, and then took up teaching as a profession. I organized a summer school (The Alstead School of Natural History, at Alstead Centre, N.H.), which was carried on for six years. In 1900 I jointed the faculty of Milton Afcademy, my deparement being that of natural science; and I have taught there continuously ever since, save for a six weeks' leave of absenc e this year, in which I visited the West Indies and Panama. I have devoted my summer vacations to experimental work in biology at my New Hampshire farm. I have written a few short sciwentific papers. Milton, Mass, March 31 (AP) William Lusk Webster Field, 76, retired headmaster of Milton Academy, died at Winter Park, Fla., Thursday, it was learned here today. Mr. Field had been headmaster emeritus since he retired in 1942, He was founder of the National Council of Independent Schools, an organization of some 700 private schools. Mr. Field attended Milton Academay as a student, graduated from Harvard, was named to the Milton faculty as a biology and geography teacher and was named Milton headmaster in 1917. He leaves his widow, Elinor, and two daughters, Mrs. Giles S.M. Rich of Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Gray H. Twombly of New York." References
