William Farley, Senior, son of John, Jr. and Elizabeth (Archer) Farley, born about 1710, married Martha Stewart, Reference: Jesse Kelso Farley, Jr., Twelve generations of Farleys (Chicago: Press Albin O. Horn Co., 1934) page 33, died 1782 in Rawleigh Parish, Amelia Co., VA. On 20 May, 1748, he sold, to his son John, 243 acres on Flat Creek for five shillings. Reference: Amelia Co., Virginia Deed Book 3, page 69. This son, John, died 1766, before his father's death, leaving wife, Sarah. Reference: Amelia Co., VA Will Book, 2X, page 157. William named Sarah as his daughter-in-law in his will. Reference: Amelia Co., VA Will Book, 3, page 247. William Farley, Senior, WILL: In the name of God Amen. I, William Farley, Sen. of the Parish of Rawleigh and the County of Amelia, Being in perfect mind and memory, thanks be unto all mighty God for it, and Calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed unto men once to die, make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament. First I give my Soul to Almighty God who First gave it to me and my body to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors, and my worldly Estate the Lord hath Blessed me with, I give and bequeath in manner as Follows after my Just debts are paid, viz. I lend unto my beloved wife Martha all my Estate I now enjoy both Real and personally during her natural Life. Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Stephen all the Land I now process also Two negroes named Ben and Joe Boy to him and his Heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Stuart Farley one Negro man named Bobb; Item I give unto my Son Daniel Farley one negro named Jemmboy to him and his heirs ForEver, I give and bequeath unto my Son William Farley one negro named Lewis to him and his heirs forEver, Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Hannah one Negro named Suckey also one bed and Furniture as it Stands Commonly Called her bed to she and her heirs ForEver. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Betty Stuart one negro named Cloe to She and her heirs Forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter-in-law Sarah Farley one Negro named Nance to She and her Heirs forever and all my Legatees above mentioned, to they and their heirs forever. I appoint my Son Stephen Farley my Whole and Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament hereby Revoking and disannulling all other wills by me made formaly. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 18th day of November one thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Two.
