William migrated to Ohio, in 1804, with his parents, Christopher and Catherine, natives of Pennsylvania. In 1820, William was united in marriage with Sarah, daughter of Daniel and Catharine (Shuey) Gunckle, who were also pioneers of the Twin Valley area. William and Sarah raise a family of 11 children, are the grandparents of twenty-eight, and great-grandparents of sixteen children. William followed a variety of vocations in life, having learned the shoemaker's trade and followed it some twenty years, then butchered a number of years, when he became a merchant, continuing life. In 1835, he was chosen a Justice of the Peace, in which capacity he acted for fifteen years. He also filled various other township offices, among which were School Director, Clerk and Trustee. William retired a merchant of Sunsbury. Mr. Emerick was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, his wife adhering to the United Brethren denomination.
