[edit] Info1810 U.S. Census shows William Elder living in Livingston Co., KY. Included in household are: one male age 16-26, one female under age 10, one female age 16-26. Adam Ritchey to William Elder, 150 acres, for $90. Signed: Adam Ritchey. Rec. 16 Oct. 1816. (Abstract from Livingston Co., KY, Deed Book, C, pg. 196, 16 Oct 1816) William Elder enters 400 acres. (No watercourse given.) (Loose paper from Livingston Co., KY Deed files) Served in Rev. War. Enlisted in Carter's Company 4-25-1781. Out on 6-1-1782 (Frank Beard according to family records of Kenneth Parent of Wheaton, IL) Served as private from 12-15-1780 to 9-1781, as a captain of horse from 12-10-1781 to 2-10-1782 and as a captain on foot from 7-14-1782 to 8-24-1782 under Col. Roebuck (Kathy Oliver, Norman OK) The Elders came here from Spartanburg Co., SC. Most of the men were soldiers in the Rev. War. These were Capt. James Elder, Pvt. John Elder, and Pvt William Elder. George Elder, a son of William, when about 25 years of age settled in the vicinity of Marion on Crooked Creek. George was probably a charter member of the church and served the rest of his life as an elder in Bethany Church. John Elder served many years on the session.
