An Edwards family bible that most likely belonged to William Barnet Edwards shows William Edwards married Martha (Patsy) Coleman on the 18 Dec 1817 in Cumberland Co., VA. She was born 1 Dec 1793 Buckingham Co., VA and died Oct 1821 in Cumberland Co., VA. Only one child resulted from this union, William Barnet Edwards b. 21 Aug 1820. There are other children listed in the Edwards family bible which some attribute to William and Martha (Coleman) Edwards, but they were the children of Gideon and Virginia (Archer) Edwards. After the death of Martha (Coleman) Edwards it appears William Edwards placed his infant son with his younger brother Gideon's family as William Edwards appears in the 1830 Cumberland Co., VA U.S. census living by himself.

After William migrated to Todd County, KY with most of his siblings in the early 1830's he married the niece of his brother Bernard Edwards wife Martha Davenport.

A notice of William Edwards marriage to Dorothy D. Davenport was published in the May 26, 1836 Lynchburg Virginian newspaper (Ancestry) wherein it identified his origins:

Edwards, William married on Jan. 5th last to Miss Dorothy D. Davenport, dau of Ballard Davenport of Todd Co., Ky., by the Rev. Aaron Trabue. Groom of Logan Co., formerly of Cumberland Co., Va. (p. 3, c.3)

William Edwards February 25, 1850 'Settlement of Estate' filed in Logan County, KY. listed the following children: William B. Edwards, Henry Clay Edwards as the only known heirs. In the 22 Jan, 1850 settlement Henry Clay Edwards is listed as a little boy and William B. Edwards relinquished all title in said estate to Dorothy G. Edwards indicating he was 21 years of age or older. (See Summary from Joe Crouch)
