Matriculated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and received his BA in 1583. He is listed as a sizar - one who worked to pay off his school expenses. He first muved to Thurston, a small parish in Suffolk, where he served as curate from 1583 to 1586. In 1586, he received his masters from Cambridge and moved to Cranbrook, where he served as assistant to the parish of St. Dunstan's Church and wrote the parish records. He succeeded the vicar upon his death in August 1591 and held the office until his own death in 1616.S7

"He was a very methodical gentleman, a strict Episcopalian, judicious in his counsels, humane in his advice, and a reprover of immorality. Every way he appears to have been a diligent pastor over his flock, and has left a folio volume with eighty of its pages engrossed and illuminated, bearing evidence of his skill and taste, as well as care, in preserving the parish registers."S2

Mary died in July 1611 and William m. (2) Feb. 22, 1613/4, at Cranbrook, Sarah Tayler, a widow. She d. before Feb. 5, 1639/40 when her will was proved.

    Upon the first page of the Parish Register at the Church of St. Dunstan in Cranbrook, it is written by the hand of William himself, since his signature is at the foot of the page, that he was "borne in the cittie of Bristoll."
