QUESTIONS: Lets perform a simple analysis. I only have exact birth dates for James (1786) and Thomas (1791). Otherwise, it appears that they would all have been under 26 in 1800. I have the following children [males first]: William, John, Benjamin, James, Henry, Samuel, & Thomas. So that's 7 males. If 2 of them were already married and in their own households by 1800, then that would leave 5 males. So either there are more male children than I have listed, or one or both of the married men you describe were not his sons. I also have Samuel b. ABT. 1787, making him a little young for marriage. John I have b. ABT. 1777, so that works. Perhaps the Samuel was the son of someone else. Perhaps my records are in error.

QUESTIONS: The daughters: Nancy, Martha, Rhoda, Susan, & Elizabeth. So this all fits fine.

QUESTIONS: I have 2 wives, one is Susannah Shearin, and the other is Mary, who also married George Haselwood at some point. If he married Mary in 1792, then the following would have been by Susanna: William (1776), John (1777), Nancy (1779), James (1786), Henry (1787) & Samuel (1788) and probably Mary also, since she was unlikely to be married at 14 years of age. On the other hand, Mary would have been the mother of Martha (1793), Rhoda (1795), and Susan (1796). Thomas (1791) could have been from either (giving leeway for marriage date apprx.). This leaves Elizabeth and Benjamin perhaps as the male and female 16-26.

QUESTIONS: Did anyone find a wife for Edward (b. ABT 1745) yet?

QUESTIONS: I too would like to get this straightened out. Perhaps look to the Masons. Susan died in 1883, and should have left some record.

QUESTIONS: I invite all correction, rants, flames, etc. [email protected]

QUESTIONS: Greg, In the Sumner Co lawsuit for division of Wm Durham's land, the only children listed were six sons and four daughters. It spells them out as John Durham, William Durham, James Durham, Henry Durham, Samuel Durham, Thomas Durham, Polly Sherring [Shearin], Nancy Arear {O'rear], Patsey Moody and Susan Mason. I know Polly is the nickname for Mary [my line] and I imagine that Patsey is nickname for Martha.

QUESTIONS: No Elizabeth, Rhoda or Benjamin are in this list of children...

QUESTIONS: I think Mrs. Mary Hazelwood was the wife of William Durham, the father of the William Durham who died in Sumner Co. pat vincent

QUESTIONS: Hi Pat, I am compiling a list of Benjamin Colclough descendants, and hence my interest in the Durhams (not my line). In my own line I have Shearins, as well as Colcloughs, so I am not emotionally attached to my records in this regard. I have two computers which differ in records for various reasons. The one I am on now has not the extra children mentioned, but it does have them split between mothers. So I shall remove the other wife and make them all full-sibs. Is it still your contention that the wife is not (necessarily) Susannah Shearin? I saw a bunch of kids different people are claiming as theirs, and I gave up on trying to match the mother because of a lack of dates (birth and marriage). I have the spouse of all 10 kids listed, but (on this computer at least) I don't have children listed for any of them. I would like very much to have a descendants list (from anyone reading this) for old man Durham (whomever that may be in your case). Then I could add it to my Colclough list (at least the parts which apply), which has perhaps some 3,000 descendants now, not including the ones present in well-known publications like the Brumfield line or the Shearin line.

QUESTIONS: Thanks for the information, I shall revise my records to reflect same.

QUESTIONS: Cheers, Gregg
