  • pg 33 - "C. W. Cottle had come to Strouds Glades at an early date. The natural meadows furnished abundant pasturage and hay for his stock, and he became the first successful cattleman in the county. The Glades were soon known as Cottle Glades and the high hill to the west became "Cottle Knob". He was an energetic business man, widely and favorably known, and was Sheriff of Kanawha County a short time before Nicholas County was organized."
