- ↑ The probate record has a bill for $14.00 presented for lunber and labor making a casket on 16 Mar 1857 by C.R. Payton, Whaley and McChanse, Mt. Vernon, Mo. Merchants presented a bill for 10 yds. of bleached domestic$3.00, 5 yards of black velvet $4.93, 5 yards of black fringe $1.50, pair of white golves, pair of black shoes, nails and tacks totalling $14.00. Total cost of the casket was $28. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery on 17 Mar 1857. William's estate was settled in May 1860. Some of the items mentioned were coffee, sugar, bridle $400, shoes $1.70, black silk vest $30, slk scarf $1.00, violin $6, 10 yds. of calico $1.20, ear rings $1, 1 bale of cotton $1.40. Other interesting items of value were a 5th of chain $0.50, one 4-horse wagon $35, one 2-horse wagon $20, a bull tongue plow $1.50, a two-year-old steer $9, 9 hogs $13, sheep $8, one man's saddle $4, one clay Bank horse $62.50. William C. Pennington, husband of William and Ruth's daughter Synthia, was administrator of the estate with a bond of $6,000, signed by Sion Pennington, John Connell and George Allison.
