Facts and Events
His name is "William J. Calvert" in the lawsuit of Martin Calvert vs. heirs of John Calvert in Cooper County, Missouri in 1843. Nora Hicks gives his name as "William Cecil Calvert" in a posting to the Internet. The reference is a "Nodding Calvert Family Bible." This is the only known reference to such a Bible, and to William's middle name as Cecil. If William was married, the name of his wife is unknown. He is not the William Calvert who married Amanda Susan Oglesby on 23 Apr 1843 in Cooper County. This was actually William Colbert, of the Colbert family from Kentucky who also lived in Cooper County. (Research):Note by Robert Fillerup: In September, 2005, Nora Hicks posted the following message on Calvert_Genealogy@yahoo.com. This is the only place the "Bible Records in the possession of Nodding Calvert family" have ever been published. This is the only place the middle name of William Cecil Calvert is found. Also, it appears there was confusion of the wife of William with the known wife of his brother John. The message also suggests that Martin Calvert was killed in the Civil War, whereas he was actually shot, apparently mistakenly, by Confederate soldiers while he was returning to his home from the county courthouse.
