Several sources show a supposed John W. Calvert, b. 22 Mar 1839 as a son of Martin Calvert and Mary Rawlings. Martin and Mary had an earlier-born son named James Walter Calvert (b. 5 Nov 1837). All records I can find of this supposed John W. Calvert actually show his given name as James W., instead of John W., including his death certificate in Boone County, Mo. for 14 Mar 1915. I surmise that someone realized that we could not have two James W. Calverts born within a couple of years of each other in the same family and thus they changed his name to John W. so they would feel good about connecting him. I am convinced that there never was a John W. Calvert who was the son of Martin Calvert. O'Gorman does not show a son named John W. Unfortunately, there are several web sites and numerous family trees, such as One World Tree that show a John W. or John Wesley Calvert, or even James Wesley Calvert as a son of Martin. But in fact, the individual born on 22 Mar 1839 in Howard County, Missouri was really James Wesley Calvert, the son of Richard Calvert. There were at least two, and possibly more, independent Calvert families in Boone and/or Howard Counties, Missouri in the 1840-1860 time frame.
I also find no basis for a daughter named "Celia" different that the known daughter "Julia Ann." Celia appears as the name on the 1850 US Census where Julia should fit. This is the only place the name Celia occurs, and Julia is missing there. I am convinced that the enumerator simply heard "Celia" for "Julia." Remember that we do not know who the informant was for any particular family - it could have been a neighbor, a younger child, an aged or demented person, etc.
