According to several sources, William was the son of Reading Blount and Athalia Roberts and was born about 1800 in Bourbon Co., Kentucky. He was a prosperous stockman and farmer, and left each of his children a farm in his estate. He married Hessy Shankland in 1821 and Lucinda West in 1831, both in Nicholas Co.

  With Hester he had 5 children: Andrew 1824-1904, m. Sarah A. Smart; Nancy Ann 1825-abt 1874 m. William Hartley; John R. Blunt 1827- ; William H. 1829-1875 NE, m. Sarah E. Fuller; and Elizabeth S. abt 1830- , m. George Bryant.  
  He had 8 children with Lucinda: Isaac Newton 1832; Henley Warder 1833; Amanda Jemima 1834; Azariah 1835; Margaret Sarah, 1837; Martin Van Buren 1839- , m.   According to 'Descendants of William Shankland', Hester and William had 3 children: John R., William H., and Hiram Baker, b. 1831.

 In the 1840 census, William Blunt has 2 males 0-5 [Azariah & Martin], 1 male 5-10 [Henley] , 1 male 10-15 [John], 1 male 15-20 [Andrew], 1 male 40-50 [William]; and 2 females 0-5 [Amanda and Margaret], 1 female 10-15 [?], and 1 female 20-30 [Lucinda]. {p.58, Nicholas Co Kentucky census, <www.rootsweb.com/census>, 18 Oct 2003}
  In the 1850 census for Nicholas Co., Kentucky, William Blount is living next door to John [Wolfe] Shankland. William is 49, a farmer from Kentucky with $4,000.  His [second] wife Lucinda is 39 from Kentucky. The children [by Lucinda] are Henley W. 17, farmer; Amanda J. 15; Azariah 14; Margaret 12; Martin N. B. 10; Philip S. 8; Alfred A. 5; Atha G. 3; and Francis M., 2.  Next door are his sons, Andrew Blount, 27, with wife Sarah; and next door to him is John R. Hartley on p. 461b, and her brother William H. Blount is also in her household.
 In the 1860 census for Carlisle, Nicholas Co., Kentucky, William Blount is 58, a farmer from Kentucky with $7500.  His [second] wife Lucinda is 46 from Kentucky. The children [by Lucinda] are Martin 20; P. S. 18; A.S. 12; F. M. 10; and Charles 7. {p. 286}
 In the 1870 census for Moorefield, Nicholas Co., Kentucky, William Blount is 69, farmer with $10,000 real estate and $2000 personal. Lucinda is 60 and Charles is 17, farm labor -- all born Kentucky.  Next door is their son Andrew 46 and family: Sarah 43; (Washinton?) 23; Joseph 21; Mary 14; John 12; Andrew 8; and Hezikiah 10 months. {p. 294}
