  • William appears as a destitute child in 1865, when parents are charged with manslaughter, but a year later his father only refers to having to look after 2 children when his wife (Maria) has left him. This can only be William, Mary Ann and/or Christopher, as both survive to adulthood. John Frederick (Frank) is an illegitimate child who does not live with the family.

So where is the third child? With the mother? She reappears not long after and there are two more children.

William appears in a Riverine Herald Gazette Notice in 1881 when he transfers 160 acres of land to Charles Pryke - his sister Mary's father-in-law. Does this mean that when Mary married George Pryke (son of Charles) in 1877 in this district, that William was also about? Was the rest of the family there or was it that Mary was living with William only? William also appears in the same publication in 1875, participating in a ploughing match which Race Pryke also participates in. His residence is listed as "Terricks", which is the local shortening of Terrick Terrick. This should probably be the proper reference to his farm home.
