TERRICK TERRICK ANNUAL PLOUGHING MATCH.

The annual ploughing match took place on Thurs-day last at Mr. Wilson's farm, and was favored with fine weather all day. A large number of spectators had assembled at the hour for commencing, which showed the interest taken by the residents in the ploughing, and also their appreciation of the idea of a yearly ploughing match, which, no doubt, was very gratifying to the management of the meeting, and will stimulate them to further exertions at the next year's gathering. The day's programme was successfully carried through, the land however, being rather stiff to show ploughing to the best advantage. Upon the whole, the work generally was good. There was very close competition between the first and second prize-takers in Class A—Messrs. John Tracey and Couch—and considerable difficulty in deciding be-tween the competitors in that class, as to which was entitled to the laurels. The following are the re-sults :— Judges in Class A and A—Messrs. Aitken, Ray- wood P. Leitch, Terrick, W. M'Cormack, Pyramid. In Classes C. D. and E.—J. White and J. Tracey, Terricks.

THE DINNER.
At the dinner in the evening there was also a large attendance. About eighty gentlemen sat down to an excellent repast, which, after having been disposed of to their satisfaction, the business of the meeting was begun. Mr. Austin Mack was voted to the chair, and Mr. James Hardiman to the vice-chair. After the usual loyal toasts had been given. Mr. Prowlett pro- posed success to the district, which was responded to by Mr. E. Davies. the tenor of the remarks of both proposer and responder, being to the effect that the prospects so far were of a promising character.
Mr. Mackay then proposed the Agricultural and Pastoral Interest. He thought the prospects of the district would be improved by combining grazing with agriculture, and this could not be done without a selector obtaining 610 acres. The last years' experience showed that this quantity was required by selectors to get along with anything like satisfaction.
The Chairman, in rising to respond, was very warmly received. It gave him much pleasure to occupy the position of Chairman of the meeting. He considered the selectors had conferred upon him an honour in placing him in that position. To speak candidly, he would sooner the selectors had not come, but now as they were there, he desired to be on such amicable re- lations with one another as neighbours ought to be. He was sorry to hear from Mr. Mackay's remarks that the prospects of the selectors had not been flourishing last year.- As an old resident of the district, he would say that last year had been more than average: that, therefore, if their prospects had not been flourishing last year, he could not promise that they would have better.
"The Shire Council" was then proposed by Mr. Boyle and responded to by Mr. Balderson. "The Competitors," by Mr. W. Treacy, was responded to by Mr. John Treacy. "Implement Makers," proposed by Mr. James Treacy, was responded to by Mr. Doughty.
" The Judges," by the Vice-Chair, was responded to by Mr. Aitken. "The Committee," by Mr. Gust-hart, was responded to by Mr White.
"The Secretary," by the Chair; and Ladies, by Mr. M. Treacy, were responded to by Mr. Dow.
"The Press," by Mr. D. Leitch, was responded to by Mr. Dow. " The Visitors," by the Vice-Chair, responded to by Mr. Aitken.. "Host and Hostess" by Mr A. Leitch, was responded to by Mr. Davies, junr.
"The Chair," by Mr. Mackay, and "Vice-Chair," by Mr. Prowett, were responded to in suitable terms.
During the meeting a number of gentlemen contributed to the harmony of it by singing songs.
