Utica Daily Press, 17 Dec 1943: CORONER DELAYS CRASH DECISION Dr. F.K. Gifford, coroner, conducted an inquest yesterday into the deaths of Miss Gertrude P. Elmore, Oriskany, and Pfc. Lewis R. Jennings, Cincinnati... H.F. Curry, Syracuse, engineer of the New York Central train which struck the Elmore car at the Oriskany crossing, said he saw the car approaching... He said he saw William E. Bailey... the flagman at the crossing, waving his lantern as the car approached the crossing...

Utica Observer-Dispatch, 23 Feb 1956: WILLIAM E. BAILEY, 69, VETERAN RAILROAD EMPLOYE William E. Bailey, 69, 1029 Hope ST, died unexpectedly Feb. 22, 1956 in his home. Dr. T.W. Pielkielniak, coroner, said death was due to natural causes. He was born Feb. 26, 1886 in Redfield NY, son of Robert and Helen Maddocks Bailey. He received his schooling in Redfield. He came to Utica 20 years ago and married the former Elizabeth Marie Mahar here. For the past 33 years he was employed by the New York Central Railroad as a crossing watchman, and for the last four had worked at the North Ilion crossing. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church. Surviving, besides his wife Elizabeth Mahar Bailey, are two sons, Clinton, Pulaski, and Carl, Arizona; a brother, John Bailey, Clinton; two stepchildren... The funeral will be held Saturday from the John S. Friedel Funeral Home... Utica and from St. Joseph's Church where a requiem high Mass will be offered. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Utica.
