"William D. Austin Former Lowville Business Man Dies in New York at the Age of 68 William D. Austin, formerly of this village, died in New York last Saturday at the age of 68 years. Mr. Austin was the son of the late Ira and Hannah Dence Austin and was born in Lowville where he spent the early years of his life. He was educated at Lowville Academy and for several years conducted a meat market on the Smiley block at the corner of State and Dayan streets. In 1903 he removed his family to New York where he was engaged in the laundry business. He married Catherine O'Keefe, of this village, who survives with four sons, all of New York. He was a brother of I. John Austin, of Carthage and a sister also resides in Watertown. Internment will be made in New York."
