Parentage

There are various tree on the internet [Ancestry, FamilySearch, and others] claiming the parentage of William Atkinson with differing results. A FamilySearch Tree claims William Atkinson was a son of John Atkinson and Mary Armistead of Cumberland County, Virginia [married in 1777], but it is highly questionable whether they were in Rockbridge County in 1780 when this William Atkinson was born. Additional research is needed to prove William Atkinson's parentage.

   William Atkinson was born in 1780, in Rockbridge, Virginia, United States, his father, John Atkinson, was 25 and his mother, Mary Armistead, was 22. He married Sarah Henderson in 1804, in Laurens, Laurens, South Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Rutherford, Tennessee, United States in 1850. He died in 1853, in Smyrna, Rutherford, Tennessee, United States, at the age of 73, and was buried in Rutherford, Tennessee, United States.
