Notes prepared by Neva Fortenberry Thompson in 1981 and provided by Jean Armstrong after her visit with Celeste Ward 8/11/99.

The Ransom Goodloe two story house which burned a few years ago was sold in 1901 by William Armstrong, a widower at the time. His second wife, Mary Ann Sanders, had preceded him in death. The U.S. Government has furnished a bronze marker for William's service in the Confederate States Army. It will be placed with those of his father, Jesse, and grandfather, James, for the War of 1812 and Revolutionary service, respectively, at Silver Creek where the family first settled. These Armstrongs are descendants of one Joseph who came to Penn. very early and had sons who migrated to N.C. and S.C., where they battled the Red Coats. Their service is honored by DAR of William Ramsey Chapter.
