"WILEY B. (Blanton) SMITH, born December 4, 1906, in Wise County, Texas, died peacefully at his home on Monday, December 28, 1998. He was a resident of Galena Park, Texas for 64 years. He retired from U.S. Steel Corp. in 1971 after 36 years of service. After his retirement he worked 14 years for A1 Scales in Houston. He was a member of Galena Park United Methodist Church and served on the board for many years. His granddaughter, Robbie Smith, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred E. Smith; two sons, Lindsey T. Smith and his wife, Ethel, of Galena Park, and William B. (Bill) Smith and his wife, Hallie, of Baytown; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Pallbearers are grandchildren. Visitation is 2:00 - 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, Woodforest Funeral Home, 1809 Clinton Dr., Galena Park. Family will receive friends 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral service is 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Galena Park United Methodist Church, Rev.Don Lewis and Rev. Lindsey T. Smith, Jr. officiating. Interment follows at San Jacinto Memorial Cemetery."
