Living at 5632 Abbottsford in Cincinnati when he registered for the draft on 24 August 1918. Draft Registration Card says he had brown eyes and dark hair. He lists his mother as his nearest relative, even though he father was still alive.


He and his wife were both missionaries to India , sponsored by the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions in NY. Living as a lodger in Columbus, OH at 1930 census.

Marion Ohio Star 18 November 1950: Iberia Church Group Hears India Speaker IBERIA, Nov. 18- "Christian Living Is Sharing With Others" was the subject of Dr. Wayne D. Wardwell when speaking at the Federated Church Sunday, "We must learn to share each others burdens," he said. "We cannot offer a world of peace until the love of Christ prevails. We must live for peace." Dr. Wardwell told of India's new constitution which went into effect in January of this year. It allows the practice of religion. There is to be no discrimination between race, color, creed, sex or caste. During the evening service Dr. and Mrs. Wardwell showed movies of their missionary work in India. Prior to the service Mrs. Ina Miller presented Jerry Bosh and Marlene Derfler in a Prince of Peace presentation representing, churches in Galion and Iberia. A caravan of Wooster College young people will conduct the Sunday service at the Federated Church Sunday, Nov. 19.

Zanesville Ohio Signal 18 March 1950: The morning worship service of Putnam Presbyterian church will be held at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning, preceded by the Sunday school hour at 9:30 o'clock. Rev. Wayne B.(sic) Wardwell of Columbus will be the guest minister for the morning service. Rev. Wardwell has spent several years in India in Educational and Religious work and is now at Ohio State University completing studies for his Doctor of Philosophy degree. While at Ohio State he has done much supply work for churches in Columbus, Marion and Zanesville presbyteries and comes to Putnam Presbyterian church by arrangement with Rev. Ian Wilkins, General Presbyter. Rev. Wardwell and his wife will return to their work in India this summer.

Marion Ohio Star 14 May 1960: Forest Lawn-On Sunday night a special speaker will be heard at the church. The Rev. Wayne D. Wardwell, Presbyterian fraternal worker in India, will tell of his work there in charge of the technical department of the Farrukhabad Christian Higher Secondary School, a junior college. He is training boys in practical trades and skills. His assignment to India was in 1930 by the former board of foreign missions of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. At Fatehgarh, his first station, he devoted much time to the Christian Industrial School, then was transferred to Saharanpur for similar work. Specializing in such trades as those of the electrician and automobile mechanic, he seeks to train students in work in which the caste system is not operative. A native of North Carolina, he was graduated from Ohio State University and Lane Theological Seminary in Cincinnati. Before going to India he spent 10 years in business then served four years as pulpit supply at Central College Presbyterian Church at Westerville, in 1953 he earned a doctor of philosophy degree at OSU.
