Wayne R. Munns

Wayne Robert Munns, 93, of Rochester, MN, died Monday, October 5, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Wayne was born May 27, 1927, in Washington, Iowa, to Clair and Bernice Munns. He graduated early from Milton Union High School in Milton, WI and joined the Navy in 1944. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor where he taught Radar. Wayne returned to Milton in 1946, and Marjorie Burdick became his wife in 1949. He joined IBM after graduation from Milton College with a BS degree in physics and mathematics and training in education. Their daughter, Vicki, was born in 1952 and their son, Wayne, Jr., in 1955.
Back then, IBM meant “I’ve Been Moved.” The family moved to Poughkeepsie, back to Rochester, then again to Poughkeepsie, before returning to Rochester in 1968, when Wayne conceived of the idea of the FE Media Center and became its first manager. He retired in 1987.
Wayne enjoyed photography, camping, fishing, birding, electronics and traveling with his family. He loved dogs and peanut butter.
Wayne is survived by his wife Marjorie, daughter Vicki Turetsky (David) of Albany, NY; son Wayne (Cornelia) of Jamestown, RI; grandsons Brent and Nathan; granddaughters Eleanor, Corrine, Kate and Alexis and 5 great-grandchildren.
No service will be held until spring, 2021.
