Obituary.
DEATH OF MR W. MARSTIN.
The hand of death has removed many of the old pioneers of Glengarry district, and only a few are left. On Sunday morning, Mr Walter Marstin, passed away. Mr Marstin came to Glengarry 39 years ago from St. Arnaud (where he was in business) with his wife, one daughter, and three sons. He selected land close to the town, where he resided up to the time of his death. Deceased had reached the ripe old age of 89 years. His wife died 23 years ago, and the eldest son, Walter, 16 years ago. Two of his sons, Edward and Charles, and his daughter (Mrs Ord) are living.
The late Mr Marstin was a native of London, and a staunch Englishman. He was in the Crimean war, and his brother, Charles (who died three weeks ago in Melbourne, at the age of 87 years) saw more active service in the Navy. He held several medals, and was buried with military honors.
Deceased was a very kind hearted man, and always felt for others in their trouble, to which many friends can testify. In the early days there was no doctor in Traralgon. The late Mr Marstin was as one time an attendant in a Ballarat Hospital, and had a good knowledge of medicine, so that his advice and service was very much valued, and always willingly given.
The funeral will take place this day (Tuesday) at 1.30 p.m., when the remains of deceased will be interred in the Toongabbie Cemetery.
