Walter Beard "Uncle Bud" Garrett, of Hanover, passed peacefully October 17, 2011. He was the husband of Geraldine "Jerry" (Cantrell) Garrett who died in 1999.
Born December 23, 1920, in Hanover, he was a son of the late Ralph D. and Margaret "Mamie" (Beard) Garrett.
Mr. Garrett was a Veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed for many years in the airplane manufacturing industry with Glenn L. Martin Co., (aka Martin Marietta) and later with Boeing, Inc. retiring in 1987 after 40 years of combined service.
Walter was a member of and Past Exaulted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #174, Tacoma, Washington. He also was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
"Uncle Bud" is survived by a daughter, Robin C. Garrett, of Marietta, GA; a grandson, John William Cahill, of Cumming, GA; three great grandchildren, Jack, Ethan and Lauren Cahill; a sister, Frances Loss, of Hanover; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Garrett Sanderson; two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Garrett and David Garrett; and two sisters, Eleanor Dherit and Mary Garrett.
A graveside committal service will be held at 1 p.m., October 20, 2011, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard
