My mother, Vivian Sliger, hadn't celebrated her eighth birthday yet when her mother died. Grover Sliger was left with baby Joe, ten-year-old Leo, and my mother, who was eight. After Clara was buried near Royal and the unnamed infant son, he probably felt that he had to rely on Francis Marion Buckles and his wife Dora. I'm sure that they willingly took in the grandchildren; their house seems to have always been crowded with extended family.
In the 1900 census, The house at Grant Street held their children, a son-in-law, and Dora's brother, William. 1910, there were two nieces, as well as Dora's father, Edward. The 1920 census showed Grover's three children, a widowed daughter and her daughter. Finally, in 1930, the household had shrunk to only Francis and Dora, Joe Sliger, and the daughter and son-in-law who had been in their home in 1900.
