From Jerry Gross: "He was educated in the Cleveland Public School system and at Ohio State University. In 1891 he began work for a local bridge company as a structural engineer and remained employed in general engineering lines of work. "Virgil Jr., died in April 1963. The Cleveland Necrology File published an obit on 21 April 1963. Wife, Margaret (Wight), son John Wight Allen, daughters, Betsy Allen Armington and Johanne Allen Irish and 10 grandchildren survived him. He was buried at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. "Virgil lived in grew up in Cleveland and often spent time with his grandmother and aunt in Columbus. He went to High School at Glenville High in Cleveland Ohio. A Kappa Sigma Alumni of Cleveland Address Book dated November 26, 1924 shows that V.D. Allen, Jr., lived at 10850 Lake Shore Blvd. and graduated in 1921 from the Reserve School. He spent a number of years living in New York where he was an Assistant Vice President in the First Citizens Bank and Trust Company of Utica, New York. He also sold Life Insurance. Virgil Jr. held a patent on a brochure that outlined budgeting and the importance of Life Insurance. The copyright is dated June 28,1927. He would later return to Cleveland where he remained until his death." References
