BURLINGTON — Mrs. Helen Viola Rich Ely, 86, of 915 South Mebane Street, Burlington, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 1:19 a.m. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Paul Franklin Ely, and the daughter of Phillip Monroe Rich and Maggie Allred Rich, both deceased. Survivors include two daughters, June Carolyn Ely Gant and husband, Richard, of Raceland, La. and Susan Kim Walker and husband, Greg, of Burlington; four sons, Johnny Ely and wife, Janet, of Whitsett, Buddy Ely and wife, Janice, David Ely, and Jeff Ely, all of Burlington; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Chester of Graham; one brother, the Rev. Max W. Rich of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; 23 greatgrandchildren; and six greatgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Ely and Jimmy Ely; and three brothers. The funeral will be conducted at Guiding Light Baptist Church on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Kimesville Road Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 until 8 this evening, and at other times they will be at the residence of a son, Johnny Ely, 1750 Rock Creek Dairy Road, Whitsett, N.C.
