Valeria Heyman McConnell, 94, died on March 26, 1998, at the NazarethHouse in Stoughton, Wis., after a long illness.
She was born on May 11, 1903,at Superior, Wis. After her birth the family resided in Warba, Minn.
They relocated to Bloomer in 1913, where she graduated from high school. She then graduated from the Teacher's College of Hayward, Wis., and taught in rural schoolsfor several years.
In 1925, Valeria and Gordon McConnell of Lake City, Minn. were married. To this union were born four children. The family lived in several small towns in Wisconsin, including Winter, Bruce, Ladysmith and Hawkins.
Mrs. McConnell returned to college and received her bachelor's degree in 1962 and taught in the elementary grades in Hawkins and Holcombe.
She was a member ofOur Lady of Sorrows Parish in Ladysmith and was a Third Order Servite. She was active in numerous community causes throughout her life and was committed toher family.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Dr. Robert G. McConnell.
Mrs. McConnell is survived by her son, D. Bruce McConnell (Judy)of Monona , Wis, and two daughters, Lois M. Miranda of Oshkosh, Wis. and CarolMarian Jaeger (Thomas) of Orange Park, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn McConnell of Bayside, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeralservices were held on Sunday, March 28, at noon in Our Lady of Sorrows CatholicChurch with Fr. John Anderson and Deacon Richard Brockbank officiating. Burial was in Bruce Cemetery. Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
