Ribald was the first Norman Lord of Middleham and Spennithorne in Yorkshire by gift of his brother Alan. He gave to God and St. Mary at York and the Abbot Gosfried in perpetual alms for the soul of Beatrix his wife and that of earl Alan five carucates of land in Burniston. After the death of Beatrix he became a monk in the Abbey at St. Mary.
