PA Archives records of interest to this generation and back: 1733 Dec.28 lists Daniel Braucht (Vol 24, Series 3, pg 638) with 100 acres. 1745 mentions Daniel Braugh in colonial Records Vol 6, pages 647-48 plus 1745 Daniel Braugh at Penn Creek, PA in "History of First Settlers of the West Branch of the Susquenhanna", pg.61. Daniel Braugh was party to report of an Indian attack on settlers at Penn Creek 15 Oct 1755. These data must refer to another, older Daniel Braught (perhaps a father of this Daniel Braugh?). Burials at Brickerville Lancaster County,PA list Johannes Brecht, b. Mar 31, 1764, d. Oct 28,1847 and wife Barbara (nee Miller) b.23 Apr.1777 and died April 2, 1840. A 1755 Feb.10 report of John Braucht warrantee of 100 acres in Cumberland County, is found in PA Archives Series 3, Vol.24,pg 638. and that same book, pg. 370 lists John Braucht with 100 acres in Lancaster County in 1757. I found a handwritten copy of a 26 Jun 1763 will report for John Blaugh, dec'd, witnessed by Abraham Draucht, Jacob Seiler, and John -nagyon Feb. 7, 1763. To date I have not found any German language expert able to accurately and completely translate the old style German handwriting. The best I haver learned from their attempts is that it says something about his wife still living will inherit things until she marries again. Even the exact location is not clear and certainly names or relationships are not. Then PA Archives report data perhaps belonging to this Daniel and his brother: Series 5, Vol. 7, pg 932 return of 9th Batt.2nd Co. of Lancaster County Volunteers under Col. Rogers, Nov. 1781, included Daniel Braught, class 4. The 1790 PA Census has one Daniel Braucht in Dauphin Co, pg 93 (1 male over 16, 1 female over 16, and 2 males under 16). That 1790 PA Census also lists a Daniel Braucht in A&B Twsp. of Lancaster County, page 152 (1 male over 16, 1 female over 16, 2 females under 16). A third 1970 PA Census Daniel Brought, pg 486 in Mifflin County (need to retrieve details). The 1819 Fremangh Twsp. Mifflin County Census has Daniel Braught (1 male over 45, 1 female over 45, 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-16, 3 males 16-26, and 1 female 16-26). Also Jonas Braught was born in 1763 at Rowena, PA, David Brought was born Abt. 1740 (and could be this person), and David Braught (father of Moses) was born in 1782. Series 6 Vol.5,pg 242 Pennsylvania Archives reports the Muster and Pay Rolls of 2nd Regiment, 2nd Batt. No.6 Dauphin County Militia 5 July 1794 under Gen. John A. Hanna, Capt. Frederick Wolfersperger Co. met Saturday 5th at his home in Campellstown, Lebanon Co. 1-6 PM with the following in attendance: Lt. Boal, John; Ens. Hummel, Christian; Balm, Michael; Bowman, Jacob Sr.; Braught, John; Carmony, Jos.; Harkleroad, John; Hemperly, Geo.; Lance, Geo.; Landice, Henry; Oak, John; Shults, Christian; and Tinnis, George. Notice here that Carmony and Wolfensperger are names mentioned in Imboden files. Also, could the Bauman who married Adam, Jr. Braught be related to this Michael Bowman? Although there were apparently not a great number of Braughts in this country before the Revolutionary War, they were here. Those relationships and details remain to be uncovered. At present, this 1740 Braught (place holder) identification is about as good as available at present for this 1999 collection. Hopefully such data can be verified as part of future collection for the Braught Families of America. 1998 data from Diedre Cox mentioned (undocumented) "Daniel and David or John Jovas (Johann Jonas born 21 Dec 1763?) were believed to be immigrants about 1680. 1745 settlements up West side of Susquehanna River to Mahahony or Pemis (Penn?) Creek had a David Braught among them. Petitions to Governor Morris regarding Indian massacre in 1755 had fifteen signatures, including David Braught. 1790 U.S. Census and tax lists of 1785-87 find Braught names. John Braught Muster Roll of 1790-1800 show John Braught of Londonberry Twsp. in Lancaster Co.(Lancaster Co. until 4 Mar 1785, now Dauphin Co). John Braught from Central Germany married Miss Pyle of Lancaster Co., and was a Rev. War. soldier. He had sons George, John, Joseph, and Daniel (this Daniel born 15 Feb. 1798), and believed to be a brother of immigrant Jovas with variant surname spellings of Bracht, Braucht, Braught. Many Brecht records in that area at that time may or may not be related. Strassburger/Hinke's PA German Pioneers lists arrival 1727-1808, including: Johann William Bracht, John Adam Bracht, and Anna M. Bracht arrive 1785 and Johnn George Brauch arrived 1803. This would suggest that family may have started arriving this country around 1733, but continued immigrating at least into early 1800s.
