  15. We learn that Mr. Tobias Price, of Metamora, who buried his wife last week, is himself very low. Being some 75 years of age, it is doubtful if he recovers.
  16. Death of Tobias Price

One by one, and rapidly these later years, the ranks of courageous men who first settled the then wilderness of Lapeer county, nearly half a century ago, are thinning out, and they sleep with their fathers in the land of the hereafter. On last Friday night Mr. Tobias Price, of Metamora, died of heart disease, from which he had been gradually failing since the death of his wife, about a month ago. He was born in Rush, Monroe Co., NY, in 1804, and married Miss Emma Fellows in 1831. The year following they came to Michigan and settled in Shelby, Macomb County, and six years later removed to Metamora, where they have since resided. Mr. Price was for many years a prominent man in this county, both politically and in financial circles. He was an extensive and successful farmer, and the wealthiest man of his township. But it was not in the prominent walks of life that he won the best remembrance, and the universal esteem of his acquaintance, as attested by the very large numbers who, coming from long distances, paid the last tribute of respect at his funeral on Sunday. His genial nature drew people to his side, and the friendships formed were lasting. (Lapeer Clarion)
  17. METAMORA.-April 2, 1838, township 6 north, range 10 east, detached from the township of Hadley and organized as the township of Metamora. First township meeting held at the house of Tobias Price. (p. 13)

Tobias Price located on section 27. Being a man of much energy and ability, lie exerted great influence in the affairs of the town, of which lie was for years the supervisor. (p.118)

TOBIAS PRICE, deceased, was prominently identified with the early settlement of Lapeer County. He was born in Monroe County, N. Y., in 1804, and came to Macomb County in 1828, where he took up eighty acres of land from the government one half mile east from the present village of Romeo. He returned to Monroe County, N. Y., in 1829, and was there married to Miss Emma Fellows, of Mendon, and again came to Michigan with his wife and settled in Shelby, Macomb County, where lhe resided till 1837. In that year he came to Metamora and took up 320 acres of land, which he improved and resided upon, until his death in 1879. Mr. Price held many of the township offices including that of supervisor, for many years. He ha three daughters of whom two are now living-now Mrs. Govan and Mrs. Fellows-who reside on the homestead which is one of the finest farms in the county. Julia M. Price the eldest daughter, married J. Orren Govan, of Metamora, in 1857, and Ervilla Price married David Fellows, of Metamora, in 1873. The first, second, and third town meetings were held in Mr. Price's house, the first sheep brought to Metamora were purchased by Mrs. Price in Troy, Oakland County, from the sale of socks and mittens, knit by her from wool which she brought from her old home, as filling in comfortables.
