- ↑ Died - at the residence of his brother, Joshua Price, in Shelby, Sunday evening Oct. 15th 1882, Adam Price aged 69 years.
Adam came to Michigan with his father from Monroe county, N.Y., in 1828, who settled in what is now Utica, and, with the exemption of a few years residence in Pointiac and Lapeer, has been a resident of Shelby to the time of his death. He never married, and passed most of his time with near relatives. His was a genial nature, and had a kind greeting for everyone, which gave him many friends. He was especially fond of children, with them he was a great favorite. He never manifested any ambition other than to see those around him happy. He had been afflicted several years with a cough which gradually wore his life away. It was the fortune of the writer of this obituary sketch to be with him the last twenty-four hours of his career. Upon my arrival at his home on Saturday evening preceding his death, I received his usual kind greeting, with inquiries of the news and events of the week. After spending a pleasant evening in conversation with the family circle, he retired for the night. Sometime in the middle of the night he arose and called his sister, saying "I cannot sleep." From that time to the end he failed rapidly. Upon being resuscitated from a faint, (which produced some excitement in the family,) said, "don't mourn for me, I am ready, thank God for that. I only want to be let down easy." Which prayer was answered to the letter, as not a muscle was seen to move with the final summons came. Thus passed away one who no self, who lived for others. He will be missed and remembered for his many graces of character, though perhaps, as the world would say, somewhat peculiar.
