"128. Capt. Thomas 4 Welles (Capt. Robert3, John2, Gov. Thomas1), born May 1676 in Wethersfield (Barbour citing VR 1:170; and died 21 September 1741 at age 62 according to his headstone in the Village Cemetery, Wethersfield, Connecticut (Hale 51). … Capt. Thomas Welles died intestate. On 10 July 1753, more that a decade after his death, Thomas Pitkin and John Wells petitioned for administration of the estate of Thomas Wells of Wethersfield, deceased. Administration was granted to them and an administrator's bond filed on 27 August 1753. The inventory of real estate was taken by Jonathan Belding and John Stillman on 27 November 1753 and submitted 8 July 1754; it came to £1840:00:00 (Hartford Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 5867). Distribution was ordered on 19 November 1754 to eldest son Thomas Welles, son David Wells, and daughter Elizabeth the wife of Thomas Pitkin, heirs of daughter Hannah the wife of Amos Belding, and daughter Prudence the wife of Thomas Bushnell (Nutmegger 34:364). John Stillman and David Dominy reported back on 1 April 1755. The distribution contains the statement 'we find that the sons [not named] have received their portions in full' and it names only daughters, Receiving property were Mrs. Elizabeth Pitkin, wife of Capt. Thomas Pitkin; Mrs. Hannah Belding, wife of Mr. Amos Belding; and Mrs. Prudence Bushnell, wife of Mr. Richard Bushnell."
