Physical description Complexion - fresh. Hair - sandy. Eyes - grey. Height - 5ft 4 1/2in. Face - oval.Blue scar left side of forehead, nose crooked, scar left side of back, scar left hip, large scar right leg, has only 4 top teeth.

Some offences recorded whilst in prison Irreverent conduct in Chapel. Singing in his cell. Stealing a potato from a dinner tray. Talking when marching from chapel. Having soap in his posession when a patient in the infirmary. Having spectacles belonging to antoher prisoner. Unnecessary talking at the works. Damaging his shirt and telling a falsehood to deceive the officer.

There is a record of various letters sent to and received from his wife in Goole (around 8), and one from his son Samuel in 1876.
