Currently there is some doubt about his place of birth. It could be he was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, baptised 1755, son of Thomas. This leaves a question about why he would move to Rothbury where he married before setting up a shop in Warkworth the same year. As most of his children lived near Newcastle it would explain why he died there, possibly after the death of his wife.
