Thomas is described in his marriage record as the son of John Minshall of Appleton, shoemaker. Witnesses to the meeting where he married Martha Tarbuck included John Minshall (his father), Elizabeth Minshall (his step-mother), and Joshua Minshall and Ann Minshall, his siblings.

In February 1714/5, Thomas and Martha of the Hardshaw Monthly Meeting consented to the passage of their son John to Pennsylvania. John settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania. His 1736 will leaves his lands in Appleton to his daughter Martha and instructs his brother Joshua to return to England to handle her affairs. By 1736, both Thomas and his father were deceased, and thus John had likely inherited the land his father (as oldest surviving son) had inherited from his father John.
