1673. Moneth 9 day 16. Thomas, son to John Mayo [baptized].
↑Source:Mayo, Chester Garst. John Mayo of Roxbury, Massachusetts, 1630-1688, p. 37, says this is the Thomas who m. Elizabeth Davis, b. 13 Nov 1673, bp. "16 September (9 mo, 16 day) 1673 (prob. 1676)". Clearly, the author erroneously used modern calendar numbering on an old-style date, which cause he to fabricate a baptism date that occurred before the birth, causing an erroneous assumption that the year was recorded wrong.
In the first place, the birth in Roxbury VRs says it is a baptism, not a birth, and so it is the same event given by the baptism on "9 mo 16 day". Further, the church record is presented chronologically, confirming it occurred in the year 1673. Thus, it is a separate Thomas from the one whose birth is recorded 29 Dec 1676, and not the one who married Elizabeth Davis and d. 1750.
