Little is known about Thomas Manderson, on his certificate of marriage he stated that his usual residence was Kalgoolie in Western Australia. It is not yet known why he abandoned his young bride. Family fable had it that he died in a mining accident in Western Australia; others have since stated that they felt he was already married in Western Australia before he married Lillian this is probably unlikely as his father/brother was one of the witnesses at the marriage, and surely they would have known of a previous marriage. No trace has been found of Thomas in the records of either Victoria of Western Australia.
