Cristo Rules Crash Death Is Accidental

At a coroner's inquest held in the offices of the prosecuting attorney today, the death of Thomas R. Latimer, 2, MC 37, East Market Ext., who was fatally injured late Saturday afternoon near his home when he was struck by a truck, was ruled accidental.
The boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Latimer, died in Trumbull Memorial Hospital at 10 p.m. Saturday about five hours after he ran into the side of an open panel truck operated by Thomas G. Nicula, 1004 South SE, Dr. Michael E. Cristo, county coroner reported.
Dr. Cristo said the boy's death was caused by shock and hemorrhage due to a fractured skull.
According to State Highway Patrolman Joseph Glandorf, the accident occurred on Rte. 82 (East Market) between Howland School and Howland Corners.
Glandorf said the youngster was apparently attracted by a fire siren and was running across the street where an older brother and a companion were playing when he was struck.
The patrolman reported that Nicula swerved his truck to the left side of the road to avoid hitting the boy, but was too late as the Latimer boy ran into the right side of the vehicle.
Born May 16, 1947 in Warren, the son of Walter J. and Pearl Shevel Latimer, he was a member of the Sunday School nursery class of the First Pentacostal Church.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Latimer; five sisters, Mrs. Martha Williams, of Reeves Rd., Miss Marian Latimer, Miss Judy Latimer, Miss Joan Latimer and Miss Patricia Latimer, all at home; a brother Walter James Latimer, Jr., at home and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Shevel, MC 37, Warren.
The body is at the White Funeral Home where friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight.
Services will be held at the First Pentacostal Church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in charge of Rev. Herbert E. Eicher. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
