A Thomas Kilcommons, born in Ireland in November 1845, was listed as a boarder in the Michael Curley household in Wilkes-Barre in 1900. According to the census, he immigrated in 1881, was naturalized, and was a coal miner. His obituary in the Wilkes-Barre Times mentions that he was survived by a niece, Mrs. Dougherty, of Georgetown. This would be Mary Kilcommons, who married Frank Dougherty. In fact, her sister Margaret, who married George Broham, should still have been living at the time, but since she was in New Jersey, perhaps Thomas Kilcommons's family was not really aware of her. The obituary says that he died at the home of his step-son, William Joyce, in Courtdale, but his death certificate says that he died at the Almshouse in Retreat, Pennsylvania.
He is obviously closely related to Daniel Kilcommons, b. say 1833, Co. Galway; d. say 1877, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, but he is not his brother, as the mention of Mrs. Dougherty as a niece would imply. Thomas had a younger brother named Daniel. Is it possible Daniel is his uncle, and Mary Kilcommons Dougherty his cousin?
He may be the 21-year-old Thomas Kilcommons who, along with 18-year-old Daniel Kilcommons, were servants in the house of William Robinson of Appleton, Chesire, England in 1871.
In 1910, when he was working as a roadman for the Kingston Coal Company, he was struck by loaded cars being pushed by a small locomotive. His arm was so badly mangled that he had to have it amputated.S7
